Key Scripture: “In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” — 2 Corinthians 4:4
We are living in days of great deception. Jesus warned, “Take heed that no man deceive you” (Matthew 24:4). Yet across the world, people still choose to walk alone, without the Creator who made them.
What Scripture says. The Bible traces this deception to its source. In Genesis 3:1-5, the serpent questioned God’s Word and promised, “ye shall be as gods.” Humanity fell, and every generation since has inherited that rebellion. Romans 5:12 says that “by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin.” 1 John 5:19 adds that “the whole world lieth in wickedness,” or under the sway of the wicked one. Ephesians 2:2 describes the unsaved as walking “according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience.” Galatians 1:4 calls this “the present evil world.”
But God did not leave humanity in darkness. John 3:16-17 declares that God sent His Son, not to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. 1 John 3:8 says, “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.” Colossians 1:13 says the Father “hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son.” Hebrews 2:14-15 reveals that Christ took on flesh and blood to break the one who held humanity in the fear of death. Galatians 3:13 tells us He “hath redeemed us from the curse of the law.”
Yet John 3:19 names the tragedy: “light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.” John 1:11 says, “He came unto his own, and his own received him not.” Acts 4:12 leaves no alternative: “neither is there salvation in any other.”
The warning. Rebellion against the only Savior does not end in freedom. Hebrews 9:27 says, “it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” Ecclesiastes 12:14 says God “shall bring every work into judgment.” 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9 speaks of the Lord Jesus revealed from heaven, taking vengeance on them “that know not God, and that obey not the gospel.” Hebrews 2:3 asks the question that should stop every heart: “How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation?” And Revelation 20:11-12 shows the great white throne, where the dead stand before God. The Creator who gave His Son will also judge those who refuse Him.
The hope. The door is still open. Isaiah 55:6-7 calls, “Seek ye the LORD while he may be found… let the wicked forsake his way… and he will abundantly pardon.” Ezekiel 33:11 reveals God’s heart: “I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live.” Romans 10:13 promises, “whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” 2 Corinthians 6:2 says, “behold, now is the day of salvation.” Revelation 3:20 shows the risen Christ standing at the door and knocking.
Kingdom response. Believers must not be silent. We are called to stay sober and watchful (1 Peter 5:8), to test every spirit (1 John 4:1), and to hold fast the Word of truth (John 17:17). We must also carry the light: “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15).
Prayer. Heavenly Father, open the eyes of those blinded by the deception of this present age. Break the pride that resists Your salvation. Let the light of the glorious Gospel of Christ shine into every dark heart. Keep us faithful to speak the truth in love. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
Call to action. If you have been going it alone, stop today. Repent, believe the Gospel, and call upon the Lord Jesus Christ. Read John 3 and Romans 10 this week, and share the Gospel with someone still walking in darkness.
