In this present age, many individuals are driven by what gratifies the flesh rather than what pleases the Spirit of God. The pursuit of comfort, pleasure, and self-exaltation has overtaken the call to holiness, obedience, and surrender. Yet the Word of God clearly reveals the danger of such a path, declaring, “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world” (1 John 2:16). This exposes the root of misdirection—when desires are shaped by the world rather than governed by the Spirit.
The flesh will always seek what feels good in the moment, but it is contrary to the will of God. The Scripture affirms, “For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other” (Galatians 5:17). This inner conflict reveals that not everything that feels right is righteous. Many today are following impulses, trends, and emotional desires, unaware that they are walking in direct opposition to the Spirit of God. True life in God requires discernment and the willingness to deny oneself. As it is written, “And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me” (Luke 9:23).
The temporary nature of worldly pursuits must also be understood. Food, clothing, housing, and all material things, though necessary for this life, are not eternal. The Word of God makes this truth plain, declaring, “And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever” (1 John 2:17). Again it is written, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away” (Matthew 24:35). This reveals a critical truth: only what is rooted in the Word and will of God will endure beyond this present life. Everything else is temporary and fading.
There is also a growing concern in this generation regarding the abundance of voices online that lack alignment with the Kingdom of God. Many speak, teach, and influence, yet their motives are not rooted in truth or righteousness. The Scripture warns of this reality, stating, “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears” (2 Timothy 4:3). This means people will seek voices that affirm their desires rather than challenge them to live according to God’s standard. As a result, deception increases, and many are led astray.
In the same way, not every request for support, offering, or partnership presented online is birthed of the Spirit of God. Though many may use the language of faith, righteousness, and charity, the source behind such works must be discerned. The Word of God warns, “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ” (2 Corinthians 11:13). This reveals that not everything that appears righteous is truly of God. Some organizations and movements are not established by the Spirit of God, but are instead rooted in deception, manipulation, or self-gain.
This is why discernment is not optional—it is necessary. The Scripture declares, “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14). This means darkness does not always appear as darkness; it often disguises itself in forms that seem good, noble, and even spiritual. Therefore, believers must not be moved by appearances, emotional appeals, or persuasive speech, but must seek the Spirit of God for truth in all things.
Discernment, therefore, becomes essential. Believers are not called to blindly accept every message or support every cause, but to test what they hear and observe. The Word instructs, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world” (1 John 4:1). This command is especially relevant in an age where information is easily accessible, yet truth is often diluted or distorted.
Those who are truly called out by God are set apart to live in direct contrast to the world’s system. Their lives are to reflect holiness, righteousness, and obedience. The Scripture declares, “But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation” (1 Peter 1:15). This calling is not optional—it is the standard for all who belong to God. To live contrary to this standard while claiming alignment with God is deception.
The motives of the heart are also weighed by God. It is not enough to appear righteous outwardly while harboring self-centered intentions. The Word says, “All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the Lord weigheth the spirits” (Proverbs 16:2). This reveals that God discerns what man often overlooks. Many may justify their actions, but if those actions are not aligned with God’s will, they are not acceptable before Him.
Ultimately, the call is to shift from living according to the flesh to walking in the Spirit. The Scripture makes this plain, declaring, “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16). Walking in the Spirit requires intentional obedience, a renewed mind, and a heart that seeks after God above all else. It is a daily commitment to reject what is contrary to God and embrace what aligns with His Word.
In a world filled with distractions, deception, flesh-driven pursuits, and misleading appeals for allegiance and support, the truth remains unchanging: only the will and Word of God endure forever. Those who align themselves with Him will stand, while everything rooted in the flesh—or birthed in darkness disguised as light—will ultimately be exposed and fade away. The choice is clear—live for what is temporary, or surrender fully to what is eternal.
