There is a great spiritual conflict taking place within this present dark sphere of life. Humanity has become deeply entangled within a world system that constantly opposes the divine nature, righteousness, holiness, and manifest presence of the Spirit of God. The more a person walks according to the sinful desires of the flesh, the more disconnected they become from the divine purpose for which they were originally created. Yet the eternal truth still remains that every human being was created by the Lord God Almighty and fashioned in His image according to His divine will. The Biblical doctrine of humanity teaches that mankind was uniquely created in the image of God and formed for fellowship, stewardship, and communion with Him. (The Gospel Coalition)
From the very beginning, the Lord God declared in Genesis 1:26-27 that humanity was created in His image and likeness. This means humanity was never designed to live separated from the presence of God. Humanity was created to reflect His holiness, righteousness, wisdom, love, dominion, and divine character within the earth. The Spirit of God dwelling within humanity was always meant to guide the human soul into divine order, peace, truth, and spiritual understanding. Yet through rebellion, disobedience, pride, lust, greed, and self-will, humanity became spiritually disconnected from the holy presence of the Lord God Almighty.
This present world system thrives upon darkness, confusion, deception, materialism, self-exaltation, immorality, hatred, division, violence, and rebellion against divine truth. The Scriptures openly declare in 1 John 2:15-17:
“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”
The systems of darkness operating throughout society do not comfortably coexist with the manifest presence of the Spirit of God. Wherever the true Spirit of God abides, conviction begins to arise. Hidden sins are exposed. Corrupt desires are confronted. Pride is broken. Unholy behavior becomes unbearable to the awakened conscience. The presence of God begins transforming the inner man from darkness into divine light.
The Bible teaches in John 1:5:
“And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.”
The spiritual darkness of this world cannot fully understand the divine light of God because the fallen human nature resists surrendering control to the Spirit of the Lord. Humanity desires blessings without obedience, power without holiness, favor without repentance, and eternal life without surrendering self. Yet the Lord God calls every individual into total submission unto His divine will.
Many people desire outward religion while refusing inward transformation. They desire church culture while rejecting true repentance. They desire emotional experiences while resisting the spiritual discipline required to walk intimately with the Lord Jesus Christ. However, true spiritual awakening only begins when a person humbles themselves before God and allows Him to redirect both their physical and spiritual life according to His divine purpose.
The holiness of God stands completely separate from the corruption of this present evil world system. Christian theology repeatedly emphasizes that God’s holiness confronts sin while simultaneously calling humanity into transformation and sanctification. (paultripp.com) The more a person draws near to the holy presence of God, the more aware they become of the spiritual corruption existing within their own heart. This is why the prophet Isaiah cried out in Isaiah 6:5:
“Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips.”
When the divine presence of God truly enters a life, everything begins changing. Old desires begin dying. Former lifestyles lose their attraction. Unholy conversations become grievous to the spirit. Darkness no longer feels comfortable. The born-again child of God begins desiring righteousness, holiness, truth, purity, prayer, worship, obedience, and intimacy with the Lord Jesus Christ.
This transformation cannot occur through human effort alone. It is accomplished through surrender unto the Spirit of God. Humanity was never designed to function independently from the Creator. Much of the confusion, anxiety, emptiness, violence, depression, and spiritual chaos within society exists because humanity has attempted to remove God from every area of life while still expecting peace, stability, and fulfillment.
Augustine once wrote that humanity remains restless until finding rest in God, and Christian theological teachings continue affirming that mankind was created for divine fellowship with the Creator. (The Gospel Coalition) Without the presence of God actively operating within the soul, humanity slowly drifts deeper into spiritual darkness regardless of technological advancement, financial success, political power, or worldly achievements.
The Lord Jesus Christ did not come merely to improve human behavior. He came to restore fallen humanity back into relationship with God. The Scriptures declare in Colossians 1:15 that Christ is “the image of the invisible God.” (Wikipedia) Through Jesus Christ, humanity can once again experience restoration, redemption, reconciliation, and spiritual rebirth. This is why Jesus declared in John 8:12:
“I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
The true child of God cannot remain comfortable living in continual rebellion against the manifest Word of God. The Spirit of God continually convicts, corrects, teaches, guides, and transforms those who genuinely surrender unto Him. This process often becomes painful because God must remove the spiritual contamination that this present world system has placed within the human heart and mind.
The Lord God is calling humanity out from spiritual compromise. He is calling people away from double-minded living. He is calling individuals to stop blending darkness with light while claiming fellowship with Him. 2 Corinthians 6:14 asks:
“What communion hath light with darkness?”
The answer is absolutely none.
The Spirit of God dwelling within a believer creates spiritual separation from the corrupt systems of darkness operating throughout this world. This does not mean isolation from society, but rather spiritual distinction within society. The child of God becomes spiritually transformed inwardly while still living physically within the earth. Their speech changes. Their desires change. Their relationships change. Their thinking changes. Their priorities change. Their conscience changes. Their understanding changes. Why? Because the divine presence of the Lord God Almighty is now operating actively within their life.
Many people resist this transformation because submission requires dying to self. Yet Jesus declared in Luke 9:23:
“If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”
The pathway into divine intimacy always requires surrender. It requires humility. It requires obedience. It requires repentance. It requires yielding control to the Lord God Almighty.
Humanity must understand that they were never created merely to exist physically upon the earth while pursuing temporary worldly pleasures. Every human being possesses eternal significance because humanity bears the image of God. (The Gospel Coalition) The Spirit of God desires to restore humanity into spiritual alignment with divine truth so they may fully reflect His glory within the earth.
This present dark world system continues growing more spiritually unstable because it has rejected the authority of God while embracing rebellion, confusion, corruption, and moral darkness. Yet even now the Lord Jesus Christ continues calling humanity unto Himself. He still offers forgiveness. He still offers redemption. He still offers transformation. He still offers eternal life. He still offers divine peace that surpasses human understanding.
The question is whether humanity will continue resisting His divine presence or finally surrender unto His manifest will.
For the closer a person walks with the Lord God Almighty, the less comfortable they become with the darkness of this present world system. The divine light of God begins exposing everything unlike Him until the believer increasingly reflects the image, holiness, righteousness, and character of Jesus Christ Himself.
And this is exactly what humanity was originally created for from the very beginning.
