There was a time when my heart was a restless sea—tossed by every wave of feeling, every whisper of fear, every rise and fall of human emotion. I called it “being real,” but in truth, I was being ruled. Ruled by what I felt instead of anchored in what God had spoken. But the day came—by the mercy and power of the Lord Jesus Christ—when those chains fell. And I made a decision that still stands: I will never again bow to the dictatorship of unholy emotion.
This is not the absence of feeling—it is the alignment of feeling under truth.
For the Word of God declares, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9). I had trusted my heart, followed its impulses, justified its reactions—only to find myself led further from the will of God. But the Lord, rich in mercy, revealed that my heart was never meant to lead—it was meant to be governed by His Spirit.
Now I live by a higher order.
The freedom I walk in today is rooted in this unshakable truth: “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” (John 8:36). This freedom is not partial. It is not seasonal. It is not dependent on how I feel when I wake up in the morning. It is complete. It is eternal. And it demands that I no longer submit myself to emotional impulses that contradict the Word of God.
There was a time when anger spoke, and I obeyed. When fear whispered, and I retreated. When sadness lingered, and I surrendered my strength. But now, I measure every emotion against the truth of Scripture. If it does not align, it does not lead.
For I am commanded: “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:5).
Notice this—every thought must bow. Every emotion must submit. Nothing is exempt.
And as the Pastor/Evangelist of The Gathering Place Houston, I do not take this lightly. It is my God-given responsibility to lead those who have committed themselves to this global online fellowship into a full understanding of their rightful place in the Kingdom lifestyle of the Lord Jesus Christ. Not a life led by impulse—but a life established in truth. Not a walk governed by emotion—but a walk directed by the Spirit of the living God.
To the beloved of The Gathering Place Houston, hear this clearly: you were not redeemed to be ruled by your feelings. You were redeemed to walk in truth. Feelings will rise, yes—but they are not your master. Christ is.
The Spirit of God does not lead us into confusion, instability, or emotional chaos. The Word declares, “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace…” (1 Corinthians 14:33). If what you feel is pulling you away from peace, from obedience, from clarity in Christ—it is not from Him.
Stand firm.
There is a holy discipline in denying the flesh its voice when it seeks to contradict the Spirit. As it is written, “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” (Galatians 5:16). Emotions tied to the flesh will always war against the Spirit—but you have been given authority to choose whom you will obey.
I have chosen.
And I urge you—choose daily.
Do not seek God merely for what He can place in your hands. Seek Him for who He is. The danger of emotional living is that it often ties devotion to outcome. If He blesses, we rejoice. If He delays, we withdraw. But true relationship is not built on emotional reward—it is built on unwavering trust.
The Scripture calls us deeper: “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13).
Not half-hearted. Not emotionally convenient. But with everything.
Chase His heart.
Not His hand.
For when you pursue Him for who He is—holy, righteous, unchanging—you will find that your emotions begin to fall into order under His truth. Joy becomes rooted, not fleeting. Peace becomes constant, not circumstantial. Love becomes sacrificial, not self-serving.
This is the way of freedom.
Beloved, guard your heart, but do not follow it blindly. Instead, anchor it in truth: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5).
Your understanding will fail. Your emotions will fluctuate. But the Word of God stands forever.
So I say again, from a life now governed by the Spirit—I will never again be a slave to human emotion. I have been purchased by truth. I have been anchored in Christ. And I will walk in the liberty wherewith He has made me free.
Now you—rise, and walk in that same freedom.
