Righteousness vs. Darkness: Are You Truly Submitting to God?

The darkness of this present world system continues to spread through hearts that refuse the light of truth, and many are walking in deception with the unrighteous of this present wicked age. Though they speak religious words and outwardly present themselves as righteous, their lives reveal resistance toward the manifest holy Word of God. The scriptures forewarned us that this condition would arise, where people would embrace appearances of godliness while rejecting the authority and transforming power of truth. The Word of God declares in 2 Timothy 3:5, “Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” This reveals a people who maintain religious identity yet refuse submission to the Word that exposes sin and calls for repentance.

The darkness deepens when men and women love the approval of the world more than obedience to the truth. The Lord Jesus Himself testified in John 3:19-20, “And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.” This shows that deception is not always ignorance; often it is a deliberate rejection of the light because the light reveals the hidden works of the heart. Those who resist the manifest Word of God prefer religious appearance over genuine transformation.

The present world system encourages compromise, and many who claim righteousness conform to its standards rather than to the holiness of God. The scripture warns believers in Romans 12:2, “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” When individuals choose conformity to worldly values, they begin to drift into deception while still maintaining the language of faith. Their lips honor God, but their lives contradict His Word, fulfilling what was spoken in Isaiah 29:13, “This people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me.”

The unrighteousness of this world blinds many who claim to know God, and the enemy uses deception to keep them comfortable in religious tradition without obedience. The apostle Paul explained this spiritual blindness in 2 Corinthians 4:4, “In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ… should shine unto them.” When hearts are blinded, people may still speak of righteousness, yet they reject correction, despise truth, and resist the convicting power of the Word of God. Their outward religion becomes a covering for inward rebellion.

The scriptures also warn that some profess to know God while denying Him through their conduct. The Word states in Titus 1:16, “They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.” This is the tragedy of deception: a person may claim righteousness, yet their refusal to submit to the holy Word reveals their true condition. Disrespect toward the manifest Word of God is evidence of a heart that has chosen darkness over light.

The Lord Jesus also warned that not everyone who uses righteous language truly belongs to Him. In Matthew 7:21, He said, “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” This exposes the difference between form and reality. The form speaks, but reality obeys. The form appears righteous, but reality submits to the Word. Those walking in deception hold to the form while rejecting the obedience that proves genuine faith.

The present wicked world system celebrates unrighteousness and pressures many to compromise truth. Yet the Word warns in 1 John 2:15-16, “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world… For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father.” When individuals embrace these things, their hearts drift from the holiness of God while they continue to maintain outward righteousness. This is the deception of darkness — religion without transformation, confession without obedience, appearance without truth.

Therefore, the darkness of this present world system is not only among the openly unrighteous, but also among those who appear righteous yet resist the authority of the manifest holy Word of God. The scripture calls believers to discernment in Ephesians 5:11, “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.” Those who truly walk in the light will not only speak righteousness, but they will honor, obey, and submit to the holy Word of God, proving that they are not merely holding a form, but walking in the truth of the living Christ.
